Antiwar News and The Media's Avoidant Coverage

After reviewing the Antiwar website, I was not surprised by my findings. It is evident in our society today, that the media is selective as to the information it releases regarding events related to military action. Because global conflict is a topic that is not easily covered by news media when information is distributed, it may be partial or one-sided. Websites similar to these provided for this reflection are evidence of this.

After reflecting on this idea, I determined that a possible reason that our nation's media does not hold war in a negative light is that it plays a pivotal role in our nation's economy and politics. Though it is not uncommon for the media to be antiwar on the occasion, it is common for the media to exaggerate the situation at hand in order to generate viewership, to further influence the opinions of the public. I think that one of the biggest takeaways from analyzing these sources is that both sides of an argument need to be represented in media. As shown on the antiwar website, there can be equal arguments for the continuation or end of a conflict, but in most situations, only one side is presented. This shows the overall importance of presenting both sides of an argument in the sharing of media so the public can come to their own conclusions.
